Kira MC has recruited Labor Officer to address labor related issues

Namuli Jane Mary, Labor Officer Kira MC

Kira Municipal Council has recruited a substantive labor Officer to work on labor related issues within the Municipality. The Municipality with a number of industries and other employing institutions has been experiencing labor related challenges but could not handle them locally and timely but rather had to depend on the Wakiso District Labor Office support which has not been reliable due to the fact that it has been with much to handle thus causing delays in handling the reported matters.

Mr. Benon Yiga, the Municipal Town Clerk, says that Kira is Semi-Autonomous but where happens to be a gap and need the Municipality depends on the support from the mother District – Wakiso and they have been so supportive only that at times they also find themselves with much to handle giving priority to the first reported matters given the notion that first come first serve”

“When Kira was elevated to Municipal Status it had to recruit staff to match the status but not all were filled to the sealing due to the wage bill and so, in some cases some staff had to be assigned with addition responsibilities depending on the need on ground but due to availability of resources recruitment of a substantive Officer had to be done in order to put the right person onto the right task, relieve employees within Kira from traveling to Wakiso district for services and also provide timely services” he said adding that due to industrial and other business boom in the area there are many employees and employers with challenges which queries timely attention for the business to go in respect to and protection of workers rights.
